Senior Compliance Manager ensures that Alef Education adheres to the applicable laws, regulations, industry standards and internal policies, and has a full understanding of its compliance risks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Compliance testing to assess Compliance status against applicable laws, regulations, and other requirements, defined in the compliance universe and checklist part of the GRC platform along with periodic monitoring and report of Compliance activities and non-conformities.
  • Monitor the Compliance requirements to identify both updates that have come to the Company’s Compliance obligations and any new obligations applicable to the Company, and update the compliance register accordingly. 
  • Monitor the performance of compliance, identifying critical gaps and resulting regulatory risk in the company and recommend remedial actions. 
  • Provide advisory support on Compliance related matters to functional teams and branches wherever required on a need basis and provide clarifications/explanation in terms of legal provisions either by itself or with Company’s Legal function/external counsel.
  • Meet with the Risk function and discuss Compliance status on a quarterly basis to support and inform the quarterly update of the Corporate Risk Register and the associated corporate risk report. 
  • Produce bi-annual Compliance report on the effectiveness of the Compliance activities to the ARCC, including:
  • Provide an assessment of Compliance management performance of the first line of defence reflecting how the first line of defence is meeting applicable Compliance obligations within the current and emerging Compliance environment.
  • Highlight key Compliance risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Report how the second line of defence is performing its roles and responsibilities.
  • Highlight priority areas that present challenges for Compliance (due to the high likelihood and/or impact of Compliance issues, incidents, or weaknesses identified in the Compliance control environment).
  • Inform decisions on the appropriateness of actions to be taken to address shortcomings; and
  • Monitor the status of remediation and preventive actions to ensure effective Compliance outcomes. 

Education, Experience and Required Skill:

  • A bachelor’s degree in law, Accounting or a similar field
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience managing the compliance function for a listed business.
  • At least 5 years’ experience leading the compliance function in the Middle East.
  • Solid knowledge of GRC systems, experience in the implementation is an advantage
  • A recognized International Compliance Association license is preferable.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English is mandatory, and fluency in Arabic is an advantage.
